Oil eater?

What are the causes for engine oil to disappear? I have 100,605 miles on my HHR, and I just pulled into the lot at work today and checked my dipstick, and there was no oil on it.

I last changed it 4-5 months ago.

Mine burned 2 qts in a 1000 miles a while back. That detroyed my cat. I did a SeaFoam top clean and oil treatment that seems to have loosened up a stuck oil control ring. Consumption has returned to zero, New cat is in the mail.

Let it sit a while and cool down, then recheck it.

Some old cars back in the day would experience a slow drain back from partially clogged up galleys in the upper ends of the engine.
Not sure if this can be a problem in the Ecotec line.

Donbrew, can you link me to these things from an Autozone website so I can pick them up on Saturday when I get my oil 'change' (refill) done?

Thanks~

Going to have all day to sit and cool down. (literally in the 70's here today. <3) I am going to stop by the autozone down the street and grab a couple quarts to get me home after I get off work.

I just got a can of SeaFoam off the counter. I put a third of the can in the crankcase for a couple thousand miles.
For the top I disconnected the PCV tube from the cam cover, them while my lovely assistant held the RPM at around 1500, I dribbled a third of a can into the tube. Shut the engine off immediately and let sit overnight then have a spirited drive for 10 miles or so to clear the magic smoke I did that twice. The object is to get enough liquid to sit in the cylinders to seep into the rings and soak them clean. Some people have been known to just pour some into the spark plug holes to soak.

Do you have visuals that I can look at so I know where you are talking about? I haven't explored the facets of this car as closely I have other things yet.

There is only one tube from the cam cover to the throttle body, and I don't share visuals of my lovely assistant.

SeaFoam on YouTube is how I figured it out.
