Oil Filter Cap

This may be an old thread but here goes. Is there a tool available to remove the oil filter cap on the 2.4 engine? Right now, I'm using a rather large adjustable wrench which is hard to get down in there. Thanks!

Check around as there is a short socket made just for taking the caps off the Ecotec engines.

Most auto parts stores offer a rather inexpensive one.

I use this one for my HHR 2.0L turbo as well as my son's Cobalt 2.2L. They are the same caps. I would have to think that GM uses the same cap on the 2.4 as well.

No need to special order a part. Just get a 32mm socket in the drive (1/4inch, 3/8inch) your socket wrench takes. Then use an extension.

I walked into a Sears, went to the tools section, found 4 32mm sockets hanging there.

Yes, but why pay big price for 32mm Craftsman (3/8" drive), when a cheep aftermarket socket will do, & save ya some bucks.. It's only cranking on a plastic lid.

Plus I have the Craftsman socket & it IS too tall for 2.4L
