My belt is starting to show its age and crack so Im looking at replacing that before the winter comes and becomes even more brittle...just wanted to pick your brains on some options that could be done while doing this job

water pump? timing chain? gaskets? etc

I have no issues or noises as of yet, so should I just do some of these things now or just wait till when it actually needs it

Preventative maintenance is always good for peace of mind but, if it were me, I'd just change the belt. I've seen a few of the Ecotec powered vehicles go much farther than 71K w/o needing the three things you mention. The 'etc.' is usually things that don't require engine dis assembly at that mileage in my experience with them in my family. (4 HHRs, one Solstice, one G6, and one Ion.)

 

Just the belt will do!

If you have a cold start rattle think about a chain. Otherwise, check your owners manual.
