Pitted/oxidized alloy wheels

I had a slow leak on one of the wheels (alloy) on my HHR, had a tire shop do the sealer treatment, didn't work...pulled the tire off the wheel and found pitting/oxidation in the bead area. I sanded the area going from coarse #120 grit to #320 wet sand, has held air good since then, about 3 months. Is there a DIY coating/paint that will adhere to the wheel and prevent further oxidation?

Bill

My tire guys have retired but they tell me that a spray of clear coat works and I coated the Sunfires aluminum rims with rubberized stone guard spray on after I cleaned off all the oxi crude on the inside of the bead area of the rims, that was ten years ago when I put on the first replacement tires.
They are still good and holding air no slo leaks like before

And; ammonia is supposed to be the oxide remover. No direct experience just reading labels.

I have used Rustoleum paint after cleaning the alloys' pitting on my 94 FatBoy.. That was back around 2000, still no problems..

My main concern is something that will adhere to the alloy rim, I was thinking an etching primer and clearcoat in the sealing area.

Bill- These are the lightweight alloys on my 94 FatBoy I painted the rim bead, back around 2000 on.

I have since replaced 2 front tires & 3 back tires & the rustoleum is still holding up fine.
