I have seen many cars rust that have been rust proofed. In fact the door issues they speak of here rust proofing would not help one bit. For the most Rust proofing is not really needed any more. It may help on the underbody but todays cars for the most will hold up for as long as you own one. Nothing is forever even our bodies go back to the dust when we die. Not much you can do about it but make the most of it while you are here.

Por 15 works but you need to follow the instructions. Nothing will stop rust for ever but Por 15 will inhibit it for a very long time. Just wear gloves and if you get it on you hands it will be with you for weeks and months in some cases like a tatoo.

So I should use that for my next tat? It'd be cheaper...

Por-15

I have been using Por-15 for many years now, & have nothing but good to say about it..

I have restored many vintage motorcycle gas tanks that were badly rusted internally. Even my old Flathead gas tank was so rusted it had a leak.. I did that one at least 10 years ago & still fine, & no leak.

Haven't had any problems or call backs on any of the tank restos using Por-15..

Proper prep & application is important, (of course)..

If you don't cover up and use gloves the Por 15 might help.

"Shorter of breath and one day closer to death".

When did this thread get all philosophical?

I did all 4 doors on my suburban last year with POR-15. My last Suburban had bad rust on the bottom door lip after 3 years, the POR-15 stopped it for another 3 years until I did the POR-15 a second time.

I remove the door panels and paint it on from the inside of the door until it completely covers the seam from the inside of the door and runs out the drain holes. Then I paint the inside bottom lip of the door. This seals all sides of the rusted area. POR-15 only works if you completely encapsulate the rust. Just painting the inside door lip won't do it, the rust will spread from inside the door at the bottom . Before painting, I clean the all surface sto be painted with mineral spirits and let it dry.

The doors of my HHR had the bubbles on the inside lips as others are describing...

It would last longer if you did.
