Thanks both; I'll try all that. I bought the CRC TBC yesterday and their MAF sensor cleaner previously. I did read the 3/11, 3/12 posts.

The other way to find a post by a member is to click on their name and choose "find more posts by..." or use the other Search (between "new post" and "quick links" on the lower nav bar.

Thanks, don. I did have better luck when I chose "posts" instead of "threads".

Just curious why the need to disconnect the battery since power to the throttle body goes through the ignition which is off? I won't be taking any chances and will disconnect it. Just wondering.

To reset the ECM and protect from shorting out anything, whilst under the hood.

Thanks, that's what I guessed. I will be doing that, don't want to add problems.

Just finished removing and cleaning the throttle body. First thing was to hold the throttle plate open with a wooden dowl. Just kidding. I was very careful to not move it. I used some brushes from the dollar store, Q-Tips, and a shop towel along with Silverfoxe's method of using a small pan to accumulate liquid (CRC TB Cleaner). Some pictures of before cleaning. Note the little bits of grit at the edge of the throttle plate. I forgot to take a couple after I was finished, but suffice it to say it was spakling and the grit was gone.

I didn't start the car today prior to cleaning, and afterwards it started up fine. I'm cautiously optimistic, though, because the sun was on it all day and I'm not sure if that would make a difference. However, I don't think it did in the past. The real test will be tomorrow morning. I'll keep you posted.

The job was super easy. The worst part was resetting all the parameters of my aftermarket head unit after having the battery disconnected.

What happened to the rubber gasket? Looks like whatever was there was leaking. There is not supposed to be anything applied to it, just an O-ring gasket. Maybe a bit of grease.

The gasket seemed OK and stayed put on the engine side so I left it alone. I didn't put anything on it. Idle was smooth afterwards. I assume you mean this gasket:

Looks like somebody put some goop on it and there is evidence of leakage, to me.

Are you talking about a leak in the area on the body between the two bolt holes at the bottom of the second and third pics? I didn't see any goop or grease on the gasket. I've had the car since new and the throttle body's never been off. I did order a new gasket; when it comes in a few days, I can replace the old one.
