Tpms issue

My service tire monitor system light goes on and off randomly stating a different tire isn't registering each time. Does anybody have any input on this?

Year and model ?
Original TPMS sensors ?
Are you the original owner ?
Sensor batteries are only good for about 8 years.
Has the car battery ever gone dead or been disconnected or changed ?
Some 2008 models have a program issue after a dead battery. Needs a software update on those.

All the tires are set and fine 90% of the time. occasionally on startup it doesn't recognize the left front. Other times its the right front and so on

The batteries last 8-10 years. Let's do maths, 2019-2008=11.

I would say so.
When I bought my used HHR only one sensor would drop out, always on the same tire. not knowing the history of the sensors I installed all 4.
