2010 2.2 w/138,000 miles - No codes-no symptoms.
If you were to replace these -often problematic(?)- parts due to aging & accumulated mileage, what parts would you be buying to insure against mystery failures?
When I replaced -like- parts on a V6 Lexus, I opted for the NTK brand which is an NGK (genuine Japanese) automobile hard parts source.
These are components that I'd -NEVER- opt for least expensive/house brand variety, so I'm inquiring regarding experience -or - lack of problematic experiences.

When they fail it is not catastrophic. Wait for a code to worry about them P0010, P0011, P0013, P0014. Replace both when you do.
P0016 & P0017 mean the timing chain is the problem, not the sensor.

I found this product brochure by the Standard Motor Products, touting their 'Blue Streak' line of VVT parts.
The product line is manufactured in Poland.
When investigating replacement coil-over-plug parts for my Lexus, NAPA markets 'premium' components that are likewise manufactured in Poland.
The Gates products inform that they are covered by a 'limited lifetime' manufacturer warranty, but those parts originate in China.

Brochure indicates 'Lifetime' warranty, but R.A insists that 'only' 36 months applies.

Delving further into the Standard Motor Products Blue Streak VVT pages, these solenoids are a suggested 'cure' for intermittent start up rattle on GM 2.4 series engines.
Sure is a mighty fine screen over the ports on these things, and if they could be susceptible to 'leak-down', could this be a valid reason behind that pernicious noise emanation?

Haven't gotten around to pulling the solenoids and inspecting for any 'trash' bound up on those screens yet.
What are other's experiences of such?

At least the Genuine GM replacement parts 'says' that it originates in the United States.
And yeah, I'm aware that the GM/AC-Delco parts can be sourced less expensively else where.
