This is the first I heard of this. Perhaps I just have long arms or something, because I did not need to lift the car in any manner to get to the oil plug. I was able to reach back there, loosen it, and drain the oil. Anyone else able to get it without jacks or ramps????

 

I guess it's all relative....$10 from the dealer. Yeah, more than aftermarket brands (in most cases) but, not expensive.

When I had a LW200 Saturn I bought my filters from Saturn for $6.35 each. It had the 2.2 engine which uses the same oil filter as the HHR. Check on E-Bay under Saturn oil filters and you'll find a Saturn dealer selling them for I think it was $72 a dozen.
Incendently we pick up our HHR tomorrow. It took just 6 weeks from order to delivery and the holidays were in there too.

Which side of the vehicle do you get at the oil plug from?

I was under the impression that the oil plug was on the back of the engine on the passenger side, but when I looked under mine (I have the 2.4) the oil plug looked to be more in the centre.

 

$10 from the dealer? I paid $6 CDN for mine when the dealer did the last oil change. The Fram equivelent of the same filter is almost $10 CDN, but I wouldn't use a Fram filter on my beast.

I'm trying to find a place locally that sells Wix filters to see how much they cost. I've been told that the Wix filters are better than the AC Delco filters.

Not sure how much shipping would be for either of those.

 

AMSOIL makes very good oil filters as well.. Local Napa store carries them or can get them..

Not something you want to go lo-quality on IMO..

 

NAPA Gold filters are made by Wix. Those are the ones I use on our HHR, Suburban, Venture, and Mustang.
