Got my SS love it, but do you really have to use Premium fuel, the price of really stinks, well this affect my warranty or not, milage I'm not really worried about more about the warranty. Well performance really be affected also, i us it for everyday driver, i drive about 55 miles each day .

In this thread, https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/show...t=12859&page=2 . People are using both and someone posted regular is fine but for optimum performance premium fuel is required.

Fuel

I have been running the premium in my 2006 HHR. I use Kroger fuel. If you have a Kroger card you get ten cents off a gallon after you spend $100. I use it at least twice a month. Hope this helps!

yes performance will be affected!! i will only run premium in my chevelle with a built small block and have discussed this with my engine builder as per any type of performance vehicle. the fact is the cheaper fuel just burns faster so you acctually use more in less miles than the premuim so the cost per gallon actually dosent pan out to buy the cheaper stuff as you will get more miles out of higher quality fuel per gallon than the cheaper stuff!!!
if premium was 5 per gallon and the standard was 3.50 it may work in the way you are thinking but the cheaper fuel will only gunk up a performance engine and cause parts faliure sooner . JMHO

I have never use Premium in my 2006 2 LT HHr, but then again if I did would that make my HHr go faster then 113 MPH, I don't think so. The Book says use it but I say I can't afford it. My HHr runs great on 87%.

My question is How will these HHr's run when its $4.00 a gallon. I bet you mine will run Great! I hope yours will also when you pump that very expensive Premium.

Good luck to all of us.

Since I bought the 06 HHR for fuel mileage not performance, the 2.4 L recommends 92 octane, however I've been using 87 octane and was averaging 30.4 mpg for 2007. I started using 93 octane in 08 and my average mileage has been 30.1 mpg. There appears no difference in my mpg whether using 87 or 93 octane, I've gone back to 87 saving $.20 a gallon.

If you want maximum performace use the 93 octane. I'm unsure how the turbo HHR SS will repond to lower octane fuel and your driving technique.
