Just get gas before it gets that low. Problem solved. I've only seen my low fuel light come on 1 time in 20k miles of ownership.

I notice on the GM products I have had or have, the low fuel light will come on when my range is down to the 50 mile mark. If you run out, I understand you will need to put in at least 2 gallons in order for it to restart, 1 gallon will not do it. I generally will not let my tank go below the 1/4 mark.

I generally fill up when I get to 1/8 of a tank left, over time you get a layer of contaminants in the bottom of the tank. Running it to the last drop can suck up the contaminants and make the fuel pump work harder than it should along with the possibility of sending a batch of crud to the injectors.

I'd trust the gauge more than the DIC, but the low fuel alarm can get your attention so you fuel up before its too late.

I wait till the light comes on too. Mine (2006) seems to come on with about 1.5 to 2 gallons left.

I see down to 40 miles left then it will switch over to the low fuel level display. I normaly do not go that low as I usually fill up around the 1/8th mark like 843de.

Seeing that mine changes at 40 and my mpg is 23 (100% city during work week) that seems about right for my car too. This makes me feal safer about getting that low

Mine comes on at 53 Miles left. About 1.5 gallons. And I have tempted fate, down to the last .25 gallon.
