I want to thank everyone today for such a great time!

A perfect fall day, made even better by the company!!

For those who always ask, I'm usually one of them, we had seven HHRs. Got to make a few new friends; Mike, Scott and his lovely wife (I'm sorry, I'm horrible with names), and Ryan.

And I can't tell ya how great it was to spend time with some old friends. (Some who even just got older! Bob!)

Tim, Big Kahuna, won the trophy for best chili in a landslide!

Here's a few pics LINK.

(BTW, Bonnie's camera bites! )

Thank you to Mike and Bonnie for hosting this great event. Every one's chili was excellent. It was great to meet BigMOCats, and to see everyone again. And thanks to all for not telling me about the Mizzou game . Wow what a performance again.

HUGE THANK YOU TO MIKE & BONNIE!!!

You folks sure know how to throw an excellent Chili Cookoff!!! You are such generous folks to host it at your home!!

We couldn't asked for a more beautiful fall day than yesterday with sunny skies with balmy mid 60 degree weather.

Thank you to all those who could join us! Great to meet so many more new HHR friends and see all the HHRs in one place (now if we could get all the HHRs from the Gateway HHR bar-b-que and chili cookoff together we'd be well over 20+ members)

All the chili recipes were excellent!! What a wide variety to choose from!! Gotta love the unique "White Castle - Belly Bomber" Chili Mike put together!!!

Great to meet Bob, Robin and Ryan who brought their Spring Edition HHR all the way down from East Moline, IL (4 hour drive). You folks had some excellent deserts for my sweet tooth!!!

Also great to meet Mike, Scott and Karen... Loved seeing your HHRs in person. (great blacked-out panel and loved the redline tire mods)

Hope we all get to meet up again soon!!!

Oh... and thank you for selecting our chili as the winner for our HHR Chili Cookoff...

Angie and myself have never won a cooking trophy or ribbon for anything we've ever done in the kitchen so we were quite surprised.

Every chili was excellent and all deserved an award!!

For those inquiring minds who wanted to know, our chili recipe included:

Carrol Shelby mild chili mix

Lean ground beef

Salt and pepper

Blend of shredded Monterey Jack, Cheddar, Queso Quesadilla and Asadero cheeses

Fresh diced onions

Brown sugar

Strained and chopped tomatos

A dash of Bacardi Rum

Thank you to Mike and Bonnie for coming up with a cool little contest trophy.

Looks like you folks had a grand time. We can't do that here in the northeast. We are too practical, too puritan, and always too busy (at least that's what people say). Maybe it's time for me to move to a more social area of the country so I can stop what I'm doing and have a good time.

Glad to see you made it home safe and finally get to meet you folks in person along with your son!

Loved your Spring Edition Red Devil (especially your HHR bowtie overlays and your Taffy Apple Salad)...

I would definitely love a copy of that recipe if available... YUM!!!

TAFFY APPLE SALAD RECIPE

1 T flour
1/2 C sugar
1 egg
2 T vinegar
1 8 oz can crushed pineapple (drain and save juice)
4 apples (diced~I use medium sized Granny Smith)
1 C salted peanuts (I like the dry roasted the best)
1 8 oz cool whip
Caramel topping

In a small pan combine flour and sugar, mix well.
Beat egg and add to flour mixture.
Add vinegar and pineapple juice.
Cook until thick, medium high heat. Watch carefully!!
Cool mixture and pour over diced apples. (I actually cook this mixture and while it is cooling, dice the apples!)
Stir in crushed pineapple and peanuts.
Fold in cool whip (if desired, fold in some caramel topping also)
Drizzle caramel topping on top and sprinkle with peanuts.

It's a pretty easy recipe and every just loves it! Hope you all enjoy it.
