Find a good used one. You could see if Jasper has a reman available.

2006 2.4 is an odd 1 year only engine with the ignition pack on the valve cover , VVT and an external oil cooler, hard to find but they are out there.

Are you sure about the ignition pack? I thought the 2.4 always had 4 coils. My book says coil on plug, The 2.2 in 2006 and 2007 was wasted spark. No personal experience.

I would start with a same engine build. Start with the same engine and build out your short block with the best parts available. Then if you decide to add nitrous and/or any level of tune the engine will be up to it.

The OP is 85 and just needs to replace his engine.

And Donbrew is right the 2006 LE5 2.4 l engine isn’t specifically just in the 2006 model year!
for fitment any year LE5 will do.

The oil cooler is the big difference, they decided it wasn't needed on later models. So, a later model without it will work. 2006-2008 are LE5, the flex fuel 2009-2011 are LE9 not compatible with the ECM.
