Exclamation Which Cat-back exhaust system

Hi guys, i just found out the exhaust on my 2.4 LT is broken and i need a new one. Instead of just replacing it with another stock one, i'm thinking to upgrade to a full Cat-back system.

I found the MagnaFlow and Borla below on Ebay. The Borla costs roughly $500 more (incl. shipping) but is it really any better? Which one do you think sounds better on a 2.4L? I sure want no ricey fartcan sound!

MagnaFlow 16655

Borla 140201
http://www.ebay.com/itm/300864124947...e63813&vxp=mtr

And can i just bolt on such a Cat-back system and be fine, or will it throw codes so that i'll also need a software fix?

Last question: If i switch to any of the above exhausts, does it make sense to upgrade to a manifold like this one as well?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/271074146340...473824&vxp=mtr

That manifold seems to have a different angle (more straight) than the stock one. Would the Cat-back system just fit to that manifold or is a connection piece required?

I know these are a lot of questions, but before ordering parts that don't fit i'd rather make sure. Hope you can help me out with your advice!

Thanks in advance!!

i did a lot of research on those same exhausts and finaly went with the magnaflow..honestly the borla is waayy overpriced and not worth it on our hhr.
there are others that will say a cat-back is a waste of money but i disagree but thats up to you.
the header i dont know much about but Id be skeptical on no-name headers off ebay..maybe look into a more reputable aftermarket part from zzp or hahn (not sure if they make headers though)

Since i have to buy a new exhaust anyway, i might as well pay a little more and get a better sound out of it too.

Agree that the Borla is probably not worth the bucks, so i'll rather go for the MagnaFlow.

But i still wonder if that system is a simple bolt on, or if software mods are required. The hassle of finding a software tuner around here and paying extra money for the patch would actually be a dealbreaker for me.

Regarding manifolds, this offer here looks actually quite promising:

They claim it is bolt on with no modifications required. But can anyone confirm that?

In fact i might even invest the money for this JBP Vortex header that everyone seems to praise.

...but ONLY if the engine doesn't throw codes afterwards! As software issues are about the last thing i would want to get for that much cash.

I have a Borla cat back on two of my Fieros. Installed more than ten years ago. Granted, Borlas are pricey, but if you plan on keeping the cars a loooong time, no replacement will ever be needed.

I just threw a little something together down at the muffler shop, a couple times. You can dial in the sound you are after with the right for you muffler.
