That's pretty much what I did, except I didn't use the rain gutter stuff. It was actually from a sheet of diamond mesh that I bought and cut out. I have used this type in the past, along with different honeycomb ones also. All depends on the application. I'm thinking about buying a heavier mesh though, with a thicker screen so it's not as open
