Anybody Removed their Roof Rack for Looks ??

Trying to figure out whether it is reasonable to remove the roof rack.
Has anybody else had reason to do this and if so what did you do about the roof fastners/nuts that hold it on.

In the Olden days of Leaded Hoods and Frenched Headlights they would just cut out the nut, braze the hole shut, and Lead it. Then repaint.

Sure glad we aren't still at that level.

Mixed opinions on roof racks. Some like them some don't. I personally like the roof without anything on it. Nice and clean!

I am in the process of possibly buying a like new 2011 2LT with Chrome racks.

If I can figure a good way to remove them and leave the top professional looking I will have a near new set to sell. Just sayin

I unbolted one end of mine just to see how it's done. The only tricky part is prying the end caps off. But man does dirt settle under the plastic footings.

My 2011 2LT has the chrome appearance package, which I'm going to undo to body color. I'm less fond of the work required to remove the mounting holes than the concept of roof racks, so I'll be swapping on a black pair.

Many cobalt owners have gotten rid of trunk spoilers, Ive seen good and bad jobs done. Proper way is of course welding and repainting. Using filler can look ok too if done properly by an experienced body man, but still needs repainting. Ive also seen plastic plugs and duct tape, but please dont go there...

I've got plastic plugs...looks much better than the roof racks. Sure a full welding job with new paint would best, but $2k in body work and paint...no thanks.

Where did you get the black plastic plugs ?

Did you imbed them in place with a sealant/adhesive or ??

Look pretty good to me from a distance.

Would it be possible to take a couple close ups and post them ??

Comming from a Marine Business enviroment, I have done hundreds of small custom jobs to make thing look and work the way they should.
