These are nice but they won't cover the usual bad spot on the bowtie, the top folded over part.

I have painted mine in the past and it works well.

paint is an option, but it chips and flakes eventually so I will be looking into replacement bowties from different model Chevys

Do you think spraying clear over the decal would help protect it ?

No I think it would cause it to curl up.
