There is very permanent product that is a primer that has an acid in it that etches into any metal and really sticks as a base for paint. I have used it on chrome grilles. Marketed under various names, vinyl wash primer is one, made by DuPont and Martian Senour (spelling).

Uma has painted a chrome grille and beauty bar as well. May want to PM him or Sindy Dix. I believe you just sand it down, probably use a plastic adhesion promoter like Bulldog, then primer, paint, clear.

try scuffing, then self etching primer sold at all parts store then paint. Just make sure you degrease first and keep everything clean. Don,t get fingers on it after using the wax and grease remover.

Don't just paint over the grill as is. I did this, no bueno. It will last for a while...but it won't bond to the plastic.

I scuffed the surface with 400 grit and used regular primer (I think). Mine has numerous layers of primer, paint, clear.

So far so good.

I used this off ebay:

A little expensive, but I couldn't find anyone in town that did this. Seems to be great paint.

Prep grille using a wax and grease remover. Sand grille with 400 grit. clean again with the wax and grease remover and tack it off with a tack rag. Use a plastic adhesion promoter then a primer sealer. Now you can use the base coat and clear. Let it flash for about 10 minutes between each coat.

I do this for a living
