Chevy Bow Tie

Wish there was a way to add this to the HHR instead of the big gold bow tie.
Don't have to have the chrome just the inside field.
This is off a 55 Chevy.
It just say's "style".

you could make your own back ground shape, and have an airbrush artist re-create the inner field on your back ground shape and attach it to your HHR, just a quick thought.

Bow Tie Replacement

I really, Really like this idea! New reproduction 55 Chevy trunk insignias are $65. I think I can modify a stock HHR tailgate molding piece to fit the new part and have a mold pulled for a new fiberglass piece. It would just be different in the center section. Painted to match, I think it would be perfect.

Thanks for a great idea

Ok, here is the plan: I ordered a replica 55 Chevy trunk emblem. It will be in next week. Monday I'll go to the junk yard and get the HHR tailgate piece. I'm expecting the emblem to be too large to look correct so I will either scale it to the correct size and have it 3D printed or make a wooden plug and make a silicone mold for a plastic part to be cast of it. I'll use chrome vinyl to cover the part and digitally print the color insert.

I'll reshape the HHR part to fit the new sized emblem and have a fiberglass mold pulled for duplicate pieces. Should look factory......

Progress

Ok, here is what I have so far. I got the reproduction 55 Chevy emblem. It's huge in comparison to an HHR. It's over 13" wide and it really is waaaaay too big for an HHR. So I scanned the shape and scaled it down to 9" wide and that seems to be about the right size. I cut it out of orange vinyl and stuck it on the car. Then I printed out a pattern to cut the buck out of wood. Due to the simple shape of the chrome part I'm not going to the expense of 3D printing, I'll just shape it in wood and bondo.

Here's where I am now. I sent off the file to my digital printer of a hi-rez scan of the 55 Chevy emblem insert. I also printed up a paper pattern of the wooden plug that I will make. The black portion of the print is the sloped sides. The red section is th flat top of the plug. The center will be 1/8" lower and flat.

I also cut a silver vinyl correct size of what I want it to look like and stuck it on the car. I think this might just work.
