Chopping to a truck progress thread.

So today I'm frustrated with the engine still not working, so I'm going to make some sparks fly, and start chopping off the rear roof of an 06 HHR I'm converting to a pick up/ hot rod as a birthday present for the G/F. It's time for some life changing decisions here. Anyone have some input on keeping the rear seats since they fold flat already for extra seating if required, or should I just rip them out... Can't decide.... I saw another truck conversion on this forum that ripped them out, and it looked very nice, but it was wrecked in the back, and this one isn't.

Anyone have any experience or input?

No experience to offer here, but I'm curious to watch this project!

Good Luck, and take lots of pictures!

All depends, do you want a mini avalanche, or do you want a single cap mini pick up truck.

Alright, dug around a bit, and decided to ditch the rear seats. They would loose almost all functionality because they would be almost right up to the new rear window. I'll post some pics later today. Almost have the interior stripped down for cutting.

You could always flip them around like the old Subura Brat.

Keep the rear seats in place since they fold flat and level the rear up to the backs of the front seats.

Alot less interior work will be needed keeping them as they are, remove the headrests.

You won't be able to turn them around you'll see that once you remove the rear seat.

Good luck with the chop top. Take lots of progress pics.

The pic with the white one looks incredible! I was considering doing a removable hard top, but I'm a little scared about structural integrity. I already decided I need to put in a roll bar behind the front seats just for safety. I stripped out all the plastic panels in the back today, and uploaded some pics to the gallery. I was hoping to get further today but had to hit the golf course and lost about 4 hours. Hoping to get the glass out later tonight, but taking a break now to cruze this forum and look for pointers for getting the glass out in one piece.

It was a guy named bob I think. I found his pics by searching pick up conversion. His work came out real nice. I hear he was also planing on doing an extended crew cab style HHR pick up conversion, stretching the frame and everything.

Anyone need any of the plastic in the back, any of the electronic lift gate stuff or glass for the back? I also have the covers from spare tire, and other nick nack trinkets from the back.
