Got pulled over for tinted tails today

I had the tails on my previous car tinted for over 3 years and never had an issue. I was heading to the gym and passing through Bala Cynwyd when I got nailed. I was sitting at a light and I saw him staring. I turned to my wife and said "if I was ever going to get pulled over for my tail lights, it's going to be right now." My wife watched him pull out as soon as we passed.
Luckily he didn't give me a ticket. I have 10 days to show up at the police station with it removed. Major bummer. I guess I'm going to have to break down and get the LED black tails at some point.
Here's some quick photos before I have to remove it.

That sucks! I have a factory set that I'll sell ya in case ya want to keep your tinted ones. That way you could swap them out when you go back to the Police station. I'm over the bridge in Jersey if your interested.

That's what I was thinking. Just swap out the tinted set for the stockers.

I have a quick question, how did you paint your wheel covers? Did you do it like the DIY that's posted in the how to section? They look great!

Thanks, but I'm going to just use paint thinner and then clear them. The cop also mentioned that if I got rear ended, I would get an automatic fault. My wife was in the car with me so I'm never going to get away with doing anything "illegal" with it from there on out, haha.

I forgot to mention that he made me roll my front window up to check to see if it was tinted or not. I was actually thinking about tinting the front window too. Does anyone know if there's a legal tint % limit in PA?

Thanks! They were getting a good amount of curb rash so it was either swap em out or paint them. I went the cheap route and it came out pretty decent.
I just removed them, and then used some degreasing cleaner and a scrub brush to clean them. Scratched em up a little bit with some fine grit sand paper. 3 coats of paint and 3 coats of clear.

Does anyone know if these are any good and if they're legal in PA?

I think this might be the way to go.

http://www.amazon.com/IPCW-LEDT-353C...hr+tail+lights

Direct OEM fit replacement
Compliant with FMVSS-108/DOT/SAE
Brighter and quicker light-up with better visibility
Lasts longer than non- LED aftermarket lights
Fully street legal

PA's laws make Ohio's look lenient!! Unless as in the case of your rear windows, it's a factory tint, PA only allows 70%......which is just about clear. In Ohio we can tint our rear windows black if we want to but the front side windows and the windshield is allowed to be 50%.

Here's the tint laws by state http://www.tintlaws.com/

As far as your tails......the code says red stop and turn signal lamps in the rear.
Scroll down to Appednix A on this page.. http://www.pacode.com/secure/data/06...hap153toc.html

The thing that would upset me the most driving through PA is that every vehicle must meet these requirements whether it's from out of state or not.

Thought you still VERY frequently see people here in Ohio with tint that is MUCH darker than 50% transparency.

Don't gamble bud. It's not worth the cop hassle.`

From what I understood after reading up was that it was legal to tint your tail lights as long as they were visible from a certain distance away. At least here.
