HHR tail lights

I am not a fan of the visual appearance of the HHR backup lights. I am looking for a relatively simple fix for these lights. Here is my idea (and I am sure this has been done before and posted on this Forum), I am going to purchase a set (right and left) of additional HHR tail lights and swap them into the backups light spaces. Then wire them into the tail/brake light wiring. I will then have a vertical four tail light setup. Now, here in California, a backup light is a requirement. So, I have my eye on a license plate surround with LED back up lights integrated into the top of it (which meets California specifications) and does not conflict with the license plate illumination in the beauty bar above.

I have all the parts in my Internet shopping cart. What am I missing?

The 4 tail light swap was a popular modification, I always thought a single backup light from an Orlando or dual lamps from a Camaro.

The backup light maybe to large, 2012 Orlando

These 2009 Camaro back lights are just right for either just under the reflectors or replace the reflectors.

A smaller backup single lamp from a 2015 Mustang might work!

Those are good! Same place I was thinking about the Camaro lamps.

I kinda like the idea of a single brake/signal lamp ,

Like this , but no lamp in the tailgate. And the backup lights either beside the license plate or down below the reflectors

I'm pretty sure the holes are different sizes. SmoothHHR kind of glossed over the reason he needed a few beers and a dremel.

Yes the reverse light holes are smaller and need to be dremeled out.
Also when installing the lower lights they need to be flipped.
Left to right and right to left.

I can't find the thread, but some have removed the reflectors from the rear bumper and installed backup lights there.
