My first big mod of the HHR.

I got a great deal on ebay for a 3500lb class 1 hitch with everything brand new including the receiver, wire harness, ball mount, and ball.
The since the HHR is rated at 1000lbs towing capacity, which I hope is under rated as I had to look at old info on the boat, trailer and motor, and the total is 1100lbs .
It seems to pull it ok enough. Actually feels better pulling it with the HHR than the Caprice that it replaces. But it kinda looks like the tail waging the dog.

LOL. It might be. It is a 59 Lonestar Newport Aluminum Runabout with matching Lonestar Road Queen trailer. The motor is a 85 Merc 75 hp with pwr tilt and trim.

It will be restored back to original condition at some point.

Did the hitch fit on correctly? But...even at 3500 lbs., the boat, trailer, and motor probably does not weigh 1100 lbs. BTW, if you can get some Starbrite Hull Cleaner, you can get that waterline junk off with virtually no rubbing or work.

The hitch fit perfectly.
Thanks for the advice on the hull cleaner. I will be stripping the boat down, and repainting it.
The total with the boat motor and trailer is 1090lbs. The boat is 490, the motor is 260, and the trailer is 340.

Manufacturers often rate a vehicle much lower than it can actually safely pull. They factor in the suspension, brakes, transmission, passengers, max cargo weight, hp and so on. If your boat, trailer and motor were 1100 lbs odds are you would be even heavier than that by the time you factored in the required gear and fuel, plus whatever else you want in the boat. You also have to factor in either the 1100 may just be a simple weight limit of the trailer and have nothing to do with the weight of the boat. Or it may be the actual weight of the boat and trailer with no engine. The best thing would probably be to find a nearby weigh station or grain scale and know for sure exactly what it weighs. Then you could determine if you needed to upgrade anything on the hhr.

That very thought has crossed my mine more than once. A nice coat of semigloss black, and some window tint. But I decided to keep it original.

It will look like this when done.
