Question New Chrome roof racks.

Just picked up a set of roof racks from the salvage yard. Question is...what is the best way to mount them. I saw that GM has a kit with threaded pop rivets and templates. Are the rivets the ones that take the big rivet gun used for mounting window regulators? If so last time I checked those thing were expensive.
Other than that has anyone just drilled holes and used nylocks and washers underneath?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

The ny-locs are OK, will stress and deterioate, but then again what doesn't.

Try your local "u-pull it" most have rental bays, and tool use is usually included with the fee.

also, look around for clubs. Here in Knox we have whats called industrial clubs, which are essentially tools that no one person could buy. In our case c-n-c machines, auto-lathes, english wheel, etc. and you pay a monthly fee like at a work-out place...... and wait for the equipment, like at a work-out place.

The gm kit comes with drill bit, templet, and a tool to install the thread nut. the tool is just a bolt with a shaped washer but it works well.

Just curious......

Why do you want rails?

I have them on my car and find them essentially worthless. Hell, I'd give you mine if you could remove them and provide some acceptable method to fill and paint the holes/marks.

Depends on his use of them. I have them and odered the cross rails and the all weather luggage bag when I bught mine new and have used them several times. Where you going to put your luggage on a trip to your family cabin 200 miles north with the wife, 2 boys in the back and 2 black labs in the cargo area?
