running boards

I notice some HHR have running boards and some don't. At first I thought it was the trim package but I'm not sure now.

Where they on some years and not others?

It does follow trim level but they were also available as a dealer installed option..... So you might see them (rarely) on an LS or more often a 1LT. They were standard for the 2LT..... SS has a different but similar side skirt/ground effect piece.

They do help keep road dirt from sandblasting the rear fenders and I would recommend them. I like the look both with and without but I'm glad mine has them.

In 2007 they became standard in Canada. Not sure what year in the US they became standard on the 2LT's. Initially they were an option across the board unless it was a special edition model.

They did become standard in Canada for the 2007 model year after us early adopters in Canada started to complain about the deteriorating paint on the rear fenders. In some cases us 06 owners were able to get GM Canada to provide free running boards but I wasn't lucky enough for that.

Some dealers ordered them for all of their stock and the vehicles had a $445 option on the sticker. I bought mine from another local dealer who did not order them for his stock and installed them myself on my 09 LS. My friend only charged me $350 from the dealer he works for.
