I have a 2010 lt with the running boards. what holds the black plastic covers on? i was looking at the the other day and was wanting to try something with them.

 

The part you actually step on is just pressed down into an aluminum support (step).
There is an aluminum support that the painted part covers up. The painted parts have slots cut into them that the black surface passes thru.

Just start on one end and lift up on them (imagine a plastic paint scraper). They just pop out.

Then one screw on each end in the wheel well and the whole thing (painted part) will fall off.

(I just installed a set this weekend.....so it is still fresh on the brain)
