Splitting the headlamps

well last night I decided to try..to get these lamps apart..twice i put them in the oven..first time 200 degreess for 5 min..then 250 for 5 more..what the hell is this epoxy made of???anybody else tried this??sucker doesnt want to seem to budge...

Pyro, I have done it, I haven't built the new one yet, but I did get a set of 06 lights open. Started like you with the heat and sweat method. Then I got out my multimaster and cut them open, got to love that tool. Now there are lots of company's making this tool. When I got mine they were 400.00 but when you need it it's the only tool that will do a lot of cuts. Try to cut where you will have plenty of lip left to reseal them I would suggest a different sealant that GM used So take a trip to Harbor Frieght tools and you will have them open in minutes including the trip to the store. Are you going to load some projectors in there ?

yea thats the plan..custom paint and some airbrush work as well to match the hood..I was considering the dremmel..i dont think the heat method is workin to well..thanx a million!!

The new plunge cut oscillating tool will work better, but the little skill saw blade on the dremel I used to clean up the concrete, I mean factory sealant.

not sure yet..Im more in here do some painting..Ive got a little custom led job I want to do while I have them open..thanx for the linkx..what blade did you use??

thanx bud..that worked out well..was a tough go for sure..dont try at this at home if your not willing to get into a bit of a task..concrete is an understatment...thats sum tough stuff...but not tough enough for the cutoff wheel...

That was a job ? huh ? I mean Eh? What a wrestling match it was with the oven and prying and getting burned. Didn't take five minuets once I grabbed the right tool. Post some pic's as you go , might get me motivated to work on mine. Was planning on making a set that looks like the vette, with eagle eyes.

What about depot headlights? Anyone bake them? I have a brand new set I wanna open and retrofit some projectors. I don't want to have to brake out my jackhammer to break through the concrete. If I don't have to.

I am presently on my third set... cutting is definitely the way to go. I yellowed my first sets lenses trying to bake them... seal em up with some black RTV. I had no problems for nearly a year till i hit that pesky divider..
