Summer project roof repair
 

When I got my 2006 HHR LT, the roof was caved in a bit behind the sun roof. It was sealed with tape so it wouldn't leak and I have left it for the winter. This spring/summer I would like to fix it but not sure how badly it is pushed in. I have not tried the sunroof to see if it opens and the back side of the sunroof is about an inch above the roof. I was able to pull it up some using a suction cup but it didn't come up flush with the glass.Looking for some pictures of how it should look or suggestions on how to get under it to push it up. Thanks in advance.

Good reading but mine has a definite dip from left to right. the center is lower than the rest. so thesteel roof is bent. I don't see an easy access from the inside of the vehicle without removing the headliner. I need a good picture to show what I have, but it is covered with ice and snow right now...

You may need to drop the headliner

Just to ensure you don’t ruin the material. And can see what your doing. Post some photos when you can.

I took a few shots, but they don't show the issue with the sealing tape on there. might have to wait for warmer weather. thanks.

This is what it looks like with the skin removed. The cross rails are not fastened to the skin except on the edges, unless the roof has been replaced then there may be a couple of plug welds.
Removing the headliner is a bit tedious, but mindless. Just remove the side moldings and roof lights.

I recommend not to be lazy and remove the headliner. This is not difficult, but it will pay off with wide access and ease of repair work. In addition, you will see other problems typical of an overage car, which you will correct during the roof repair. Don't come twice.

sounds like what will need to be done. Hopefully I don't find more issues when I get in there. Since it is a balmy -9 degrees out, I will be waiting for some warmer temps outside.
