Sunroof Wind Deflector:

I find the stock pop-up mesh air diffuser makes too much noise and MUST be creating some drag too. I'm thinking of installing one of those plastic/acrylic types. Anyone got any feedback on this topic? As well, I'd like to tie down the factory diffuser to lessen the load on the sliding sunroof and to prevent any clearance problems with the new plastic one. Anyone got any ideas on how to accomplish this? I'm thinking a couple of plastic tie-wraps should do the trick, although I don't want to punch any holes in the mesh fabric.

Cheers,

Krusty.

Thanks.
Mine finally broke today. Been figuring on that since you first had your sunroof problems some years bavcck.

I'll just remove it and get the external one. Hope it fits better than yours, as I remember you tried and had fitting problems only to put it somewhere in your garage.

I used the tie downs (black) and was able to wrap it around the whole mechanism. I also put a wind deflector on. You can see it on my gallery.

The drag is so minimal that I think it would barely register if measured. It is however one of the noisiest sunroofs I have encountered. I'd sooner deal with the noise than get a plastic deflector. IMHO they look hideous. They not only spoil the lines of the vehicle, but I've seen far too many Hondas with them. I guess I'm just jaded. Lots of people swear by them though.

Wink I've got the plastic add-on type wind deflector on my other car and it works great.

I've got the one with the two metal clips that hooks on and have no problems with it. It also came with some vinyl strips to apply to the body where the clips go. That helps prevent any scratching of the paint. I know I have pics and I'll post when I find them. I believe it cost me about $80 though. I thought I was getting the tape on type, but I am happy with what I got.
Here are the pics;

popup solid sunroof deflector

i removed and regretably threw out my old sunroof deflector...found out today that new bracket parts are only 3 dollars on gm partsdirect.com part number :20794830 for 2006-2009 models.

So i don't have a deflector and can't simply replace the broken brackets on a deflector i threw out sooooo.....i was wondering if GM or a private business sells SOLID not noisy mesh pop-up deflectors, that i could install.
????????

I find for now opening windows minimizes the defining sound the sunroof makes when open, although i can not go over 35mph with this trick...only works at low speeds.

HELP please :)

I think you need to turn the volume knob clockwise.

Works for me.
