Vinyl overlay on 1/4 glass?

Always liked the half-panel AA5's but there's so very few of them....

I've got a 'regular' HHR. Just had an idea - why not just make up a vinyl overlay in body color to apply to the quarter glass on the outside? You would of course still see the outline of the glass (where the real AA5 does not have a glass outline), but it should still look pretty good.

Any reason this couldn't be done?

Nope. it would look exactly like a cheap body colored sticker, or maybe worse... a real bad paint-job or tint-job

just say no

There was a member here a while back that did that, but also did the rear doors. This was his "panel" version before they made the panels.

Wasn't for me, but it didn't look bad.

I dont know how well that would look. Being able to see the gap around the glass would look kinda tacky to me, but everyone has their different opinions. I could see maybe doing like a body filler to fill in the gap and then painting that area, but to each his own.

Yeah, as Solman stated, an old member way back in the first part of '06 did his windows in vinyl which was the color of his car. Unfortunately after looking for the picture to post here, I discovered he used PhotoBucket to support his links and they are now deleted. The acceptance was about 50-50. He used the screen name of hvrod.

There was a member that did his quarter windows covered with painted metal and added a rubber edge molding. You could do the vinyl and add the edge molding...

^^^that doesnt look too bad. i think on darker colors it would work much better.

personally ive always wanted to try this with the rear windows (minus the graphics)...

or do it from the rear around the hatch like this...
