I purchased a set of white vinyl overlays off of Ebay for the gauges to give them the white gauge look.

I'm having trouble removing the cluster. I have removed the two screws that hold on the trim and have removed the trim. I have removed the two screws that hold in the cluster and have removed the top trim off of the steering column for extra working room.

I can get the cluster just loose off of the two pins, but cannot get it to come out. I feels like something is holding it from the back.

Any assistance would be appreciated!

OK, got it! The mistake I was making was trying to pull on the bottom tabs of the cluster to pull out the cluster.

After you have removed the two screws from the cluster, pull down and out from the TOP of the cluster and it will come out.

PHEW!

 

make sure you post some pics when you finish. Did you get the vinyl stick on ones???

 

Yes, I did get the vinyl stick on ones. Happy with the results. Went with those because I wanted it to be easier if go back to stock if I did not like the look.

Cool.....I was gonna get those too...post some pics and I am glad you figured it out...I am always afraid of breaking clips and stufff....I did on an old Mustang I had.

 

Sorry about no pics; my life has been VERY hectic as of late.

For me the jury is out on the overlays. Price is right and worth the experiment. A couple of things things:

1. you MUST line things up perfectly or the numbers and hash marks will "ghost" with the back lighting.

2. In certain angles you can see the raised rings through the vinyl from the original gauge faces. Might not be important to some; is to me.

So, was/is it worth it? For me it was, because after having these on a week or so, I really prefer the original look over the white guages. Glad I didn't spend more money to make that discovery. Will be removing them.

This is very much one of those YMMV mods.

 

This is my first post, and I hope someone has a shop manual and can help me. I need the schematic of the wire harness to the gauge cluster. I would like to dim or turn off my lights to the cluster with a switch. Can someone post a pic of the schematic to the cluster. TXS Pat

 

Not to sound harsh,but what's wrong with using the dimmer switch on the dash?

 

I am thinking he wants his radio/ac lights to stay on.
