Tapping car battery for some interior LED lights and ran into a problem.

I’ve never done anything like this to my car before with the most extensive thing I’ve done being replacing the brake rotors and pads. Issue is that I cannot for the life of me get the bolt on the battery positive side or the bolt on the negative side off. Like I said earlier, this is my first time messing with this kind of thing so any advice on anything that I mentioned would be greatly appreciated.

Why? safer to tap one of the open fuse locations on the inside fuse box, they are live and on the retained power relay.

The bolt don't come off, they loosen the latch mechanism.

The 10 mm nut is simply loosened then you wiggle the battery cable off the post, you do not remove the bolt

that sounds like a much less complicated plan, is there a how to or something that details how I could do that? I’m kind of flying completely blind here. I really appreciate the guidance!

oh dear it seems my mechanical inexperience is showing, I was talking about loosening the nut but some how got nut and bolt mixed around. Thank you for the correction though! I really appreciate you taking your time to help a newbie like myself.

As Donbrew ask, why are you trying to hook up power directly at the battery ? There are safer places such as some of the unused slots in either of the fuse boxes (yes, there are 2 fuse boxes ).
If you're not sure what I'm suggesting, then maybe seek someone with electrical know-how to help you. You can cause a LOT of damage to modern day cars if you hook something up wrong.

Are you just doing foot are lights? Just wire them direct to the existing interior light wires in the passenger interior fuse panel. That's what I did. They even dim properly. I'll get a pic of the wires I used if interested.
