Playing tourist in New York City
Playing tourist in New York City
Hubby and I are going to be visiting for 5 days in mid/late September, as part of a 2-leg 20th anniversary trip. The first leg is New York City, then on to Toronto.
We would love to meet anyone who's available.
But what we need most is a recommendation for decent lodging. We don't ask for much more than a small frig, continental breakfast, and cleanliness. The hotel prices are killing us - can't we get anything in Manhatten under $200 a night? And if we have to pay this, I would much rather have an actual recommendation from one of you.
I appreciate this so much!
Admin, feel free to move this to the lounge, if nec.

Seriously, although I live 400 miles away from The City, I've visited there a number times and I think if you can find something for $200 in the heart of Manhattan you've got a good deal. The last time I was there I stayed at the Grand Hyatt, which is right next to Grand Central Station which is convenient in a lot of respects and is just a couple blocks from Times Square. When you're there, you might enjoy dinner at a place called Marchi's (http://www.marchirestaurant.com/) I've been going there since the late 60's and it is the kind of place only locals know about. It's worth a trip to NY just to go there, in my opinion. If you go there, just tell James that "Doc" sent you!
To tell the truth, Cheri, if you're looking to save some cash, stay outside the city. Whenever me and Stacey have been out to NYC, we've stayed at a Days Inn in Newburgh, to the north out by West Point. Not only is it cheaper, but there's train access to get into the city (round-trip one-day pass costs $12, I think, but the train goes right down to Grand Central, and you can take public transport or walk from there).
i live n nj abt 45 min train ride from nyc its a straight ride into there abt $14 i think the last time i went not sure if you are flying or driving, and if flying if you come into newark that is new jersey......just throwing that out there...
