I thought I was the only one using Photomatix and creating other worlds. It's nice to not be alone
Sometimes I go for the out of the world look. Other times it's just subtle HDR to open the shadows. It's always fun. I shoot RAW and under/over expose by one or two stops then sandwich the three together . Other times I use Pseudo HDR creating the image from one file. Depends on the subject and the availability of my tripod.
Here's one made from 45 images from my tripod stitched:
