I can't speak for Ohio but Michigan law states that taillight output must be red and visible up to 500 ft. So as long as you meet these requirements your tails can appear whatever color unlit. The other requirement is that sidemarkers light are visilbe up to 100 ft. Main thing is to know your State's Law.

Roy found Ohio law as I typed this message

Here's an obscure law that nobody really thinks about. You got to have some reflectors doing some reflecting!!

here are some night pics.

these are just the running lights, no brake lights.

bout 30' away

don't mind the messy garage. i can't wait till spring cleaning.
lol

i don't get what the difference is in my taillights then a set of GTO taillight covers?
i know the covers can be taken off, but the light output is the same.

hell, i drove around with blackout on my z24 for 2 years cause my taillight was busted and never had a problem.
lol
plus i live in a small town and i don't think the cops care or know any different.
oh well, when i cop tells me to take them off, then i will. till then they are on there. or at least till i get my LED taillights.lol

around here, that would never fly. drivers have enough trouble seeing brake lights when they are blinding, so making them dimmer at all, would cause them to rear-end me...tail gaters suck.

BTW...what happened to your lift gate? I must have missed that thread...if someone rearended you before with STOCK/BRIGHT tail lights...wouldnt you be worried about that happening again?

ever since a MBZ 560 SEC plowed in to the back of my Fox Mustang at 50 mph, I am paranoid about tail gaters. I have a 1997 Lincoln Mark VIII that incorporates a true NEON trunk-mounted brake/tail lamp. Lincoln designed the lamp as an added safety feature because it illuminates 5/100th second faster than a regular light bulb, thus causing faster reaction in the driver behind you...and let me tell you, when I am on the brakes, I can see the freckles on their face in my rear view mirror, it is so bright...I actually pity the person behind me at night at a stop light...they can get a tan off my brake lights.

so making tail lights dimmer, to me...is something i would never do...

that doesnt mean your car doesnt look good...it's just something I would never consider.
