Learning how to use our new camera

Just got back from C.P III. This was Chris' first attempt at pictures with our new Digital SLR (Nikon D5000). I wasn't able to get my hands on it all weekend:

Still have lots of learning to do with this new camera

Not too bad Got a good shot of the ding in the rear driver's door. I've got one in the same place from a rogue shopping cart

i love the shot in the first post with the white car and the fence. such a great photo. Just wish those people weren't walking in from the side. Could crop them out, you'd loose that post on the side too, which works with the photo nicely, but a nice trade off to loose the people. Might crop in the other side a bit too and get rid of the bit of fence along the side, you'd have to take it right to the bumper of the car but it would still look good.

Looking good Dayton. I like the second warehouse shot compositionally. That decaying building looks like it has excellent potential, with the rust spots, for some artsy stuff.
The D5000 metering looks like it is controlling the lights and darks well. Were you using a circular polarizer? I have to use one for mid day shooting or it's washed out scenes.

On the list of things to buy but haven't picked it up yet.

None of the pics have been cropped. At Cedar Point we took 300+ and people just wanted to see pics Definitely could enhance the photos with some cropping

Agreed the cropped picture looks better. Chris can take the time to edit the 300+ pictures Also came to the realization that not only do we need to learn the camera functions but we need to study up on the software as well. Took this photo:

and used the software that came with the camera and turned it into this. Looks pretty cool to me:

See, that building has great artsy fartsy appeal. Now get some in sunset lighting and if the dusk to dawn fixture has juice at night, a straight on of the dock and door with that rust and corrugated siding.
