LOOK what I added...
Those look great...nice work.
Hunter, they can be found many different places. I got mine off eBay, just search for Chevrolet script. You can also find them at danchuk.com and fillingstation.com as well, I believe.
Most of us who have them used 3M tape on them. Just snap off the posts, smooth out with a dremel and put them on double faced exterior tape and cut around all the letters with an exacto knife. Very tedious work, but a great result.

A paint heater was used to heat the auto metal before the script was applied. After the double stick tape was applied and cut, the script was also heated and bent a little to match the curved hood. Then Bull Dog adhesive promoter was sprayed on the back of the tape and the script was applied to the hood. Then auto painter's tape was put over the script to hold the script down and the auto paint heater was then place facing the script to heat the script one more time to promote bonding.
NOTE: I did NOT do the work. I am all "thumbs" when it comes to this kind of work. I found this young man (24) that has converted a very large garage into a custom paint shop. He did the work today in his garage. He took his time and made sure it was done "right". It took him 5 hours to put on the three scripts. The majority of the time was cutting the double sided tape exactly to the scripts. He did this very slowly. The smaller script for the dash was especially tedious. I can attest to this individual's careful, concise craftmanship. He lives in Monrovia, MD (near Frederick, MD) and I will foward his contact information if anyone wants it.
I ordered the scripts from http://www.muttonhollowchevys.com/
HOOD Scripts:
1955 1956 Chevrolet Script 150 & 210
Price: $19.95
Qty: 2
DASH Script:
SB-54 1957 150 & 210 Chevrolet Dash Script
Price: $13.95
Qty: 1
Some people put the larger outside hood script on the Dash too; I prefered the smaller 1957 Dash Script.
I think the outside hood scripts really give the HHR a "Classic" look. (I love the Dash script too!
)I plan on being at the May 17 G2G in Gettysburg, PA, so those that attend can see the work close up and personal.
Oh yes, my wife asked me today if I am done now with "doing stuff to the new car." I answered "Yes" in a voice she could hear and then in a very soft voice that could not be heard by anyone except me I said... "that is, this month."
Next...a 1938 hood ornament and a chrome center line on the hood. But that is not for discussion around the house. So "mums" the word...shhhh...
Peace,
Seriously, holes will have to be drilled. Rubber gramuts put in the holes...posts secured with special clips...or bolts...and glue...etc. There is a post about it.
I put one on another car years ago. The most important thing is to measure for the holes 5 or 6 times BEFORE you drill the holes in the hood!!! It is also "tricky" on tightening the ornament down to the hood because the hoods today are not as thick as the hoods 50 years ago and they can dent easily. I may have to put a reinforcement bar under the hood. Won't know though until I look at the ornament and study the hood placement. I'm going to really take my time on this and make sure it can be accomplished without damage. There have been some folks here on this forum that have done it and it looks great.
Peace,
Sounds like alot more work than most of us did, but another way to get them applied. Mine have been on the HHR for at least 18 months through below zero weather and 100+ and no loosening to date.
Thanks for sharing what your installed did with us as well.
