06 Speakers

Okay, I'm wondering if this is a normal issue with stock speakers, base stereo system. A little bit after we bought the hhr in 08 the rear speakers went out, just stopped working. The warranty cover said speakers, and now, last week after the two going out again in the back over the last year the front right speaker went out in the same manner.

The odd thing is, we don't listen to much music and when we do it's not loud. At any rate, we now have three speakers working, the left front door and the two tweeters on the columns.

Is this a normal issue with the HHR?

Yeah, I sort of figured it was going to be a common problem. Must be some extremely sub par parts that they used.

Or it could be that an 06 model is 6 years old. I've had many cars and many blown speakers.A cars interior summer heat is usually the eventual killer of most speakers.

No, this problem started in 08. I've had plenty of cars many years older than this car and never had to replace the speakers, wheel bearings, strut mounts, rack and pinion....the list goes on. Maybe I did get a lemon, but oem speakers going out again tells me that they skimped on this part of the car.

Issues from deteriorating foam "spring rings" that hold the speaker material to the speaker frame, speaker coils "burning out" causing the coils to short & drag against the magnet, or even water infiltration dripping down inside the doors, hitting the speaker wire connector at the speaker and pooling in it like a little cup. The last one is what did my wife's cobalt front speakers in.

My rear just went on my 09. They were intermittent, left, then right, then would work again. Both were working when I went to the dealer. Listened to the AM News while I was waiting for them to open-luckly the left went out just then so the dealer didn't think I was nuts. Had them done under warranty. Didn't ask what the issue was, but would assume it was water in the connector or shorting voice coil. (Speakers cost was $18.00 a piece for the rear for OEM on line- dealer price was probably close to that)

When they go again I will just upgrade the speakers. The OEM radio is fine for my needs.

Just noticed today there is no sound from left rear speaker. Assuming the entire interior door panel has to come off to access the speaker?

I'm sure it does, doesn't look too difficult though. Probably just a screw in the door opener then another in the gripping hole and a bunch of pop fasteners around the outer edges.

I'm not going back OEM either, try Crutchfield they have an outfit your car feature where you select you exact specs for your factory radio and it shows you things that will fit your car.
