Hi!
I have been having problems with my passenger door opening properly. Sometimes, the door doesn't open from the inside at all (the door handle doesn't open the door). Other times, when you try to open the door from the outside, it partly opens up and the lock (silver part on door panel) drops down and the door wont open completely until you hit the unlock button again. Took it to the dealership and they said that the door latch actuator was acting up and it would cost about $280 for part and install. Anyone else have this problem? Anyone know the part name/ part number for a "door latch actuator"? Interested in fixing myself to avoid the steep prices from the dealership by popping off the door panel. Sometimes, it doesnt act up at all and works perfectly.

 

Just replaced the RF door latch on son's Tiburon yesterday for a similar reason. While looking on ebay, it appears the HHr latch is like the Hyundai in that the solenoid is intergrated into the catch assembly and appears to be replaced as one unit. While I haven't had the door panel of the HHr off, I suspect it's a pretty straight forward fix to replace the assembly, hope that helps.

 

Try the internet GMPartsdirect, NalleyGMC etc. they have parts diagrams to help. Ebay usually has things for less. On other cars I have had success with aftermarket actuators from PepBoys $8 fixed my Mazda instead of the Mazda replacement part at $180.

 

Thanks! I found a part on eBay and it looks like the right part. I'm still not sure if that's what is wrong with the door latch. I guess I could pop off the door panel and see.
