08 Chevy HHR computer ruined by shop??
08 Chevy HHR computer ruined by shop??
So i took in the HHR as it was throwing an engine code (lean or whatever) they FINALLY got it fixed by replacing both O2 sensors.... they tell me to drive it a hundred miles or so so that itll reset the OBD for inspection. Before any of that happened I got the car home from the shop and noticed the Key fob wasnt working.... "must be the battery" i thought, then i check tire pressure........ all -- no info at all. I do see that there is a service alert about this year vehicle that the key fob and tire pressure sensor part of the OBD can be "erased" if the car suddenly loses power.... I called up the shop and they admit the car died with them and they jumped the car but that in order for them to reload the software its gonna cost me another 200 to do and that he (the manager) doesnt recommend doing it because it could potentially "brick" the car but he mentions that it does NOT impact a state inspection as its not impacting emissions etc. at this point im over it all and thought "ill just drive the damn thing the 100 miles and get it inspected and trade it in". So that was 2 months ago and i go to get the car inspected and it fails....... why? Cause the OBD has yet to readied itself to be inspected..... WTF! Now my question is this, could the issues with the key fob and tire pressure sensors be a part as to why the OBD has yet to reset itself? Also is there any fuse i can look at or replace to figure out WTF is going on with this thing?
Thanks
Thanks
You misread the TSB. It says; for 2008 models the RCDLR may lose the programming for the tire pressures and needs updated firmware. If the tech is an idiot he can brick it but it is the RCDLR not the "computer" that needs it.
You need to know what OBD tests are "not ready" for any help.
The answer to the question re: keyfob NO.
Are there any codes now? Number only please, not "lean or whatever". Emissions testing usually permits 1 not ready, that is normally the EVAP that can take 10-20 cold starts and overnight sits with 3/4 tank of gas.
Every time the codes get reset the computer has to run all of the testing from the beginning.

RCDLR from what the service bulitin, as for the paper work from inspection place il post those once the car makes its way back to the house.
Thank you for chiming in, was hoping you would. Ill post the results from the test when the car makes it back to the house. As of now there are no service codes and in the emissions testing there were 2 not ready's which ill give you here in a bit. The computer hadnt been reset since March which is why im kinda dumbfounded to the "not ready" issues.

battery is a couple years old, but it starts up fine and its clean. The car is well taken care of.... except when these random issues pop-up.
as for the so the paperwork shows EVAP and O2 sensors as not ready

When they disconnected the battery in the shop it reset the computers. What was the original code? That might be why the tests won't run. RJ is fighting the same war right now. Get the battery checked under 12.5 volts is bad.
Well, Chevy dealership had the car for a week.............. 320$ for them to reinstall and update software and the car makes it home seemingly fine...................... THEN this am CEL. I'll be checking the error tomorrow and update post.
