2006 chevy hhr 2.2 ecotec

Last year received a check engine light on my hhr. Had it scanned (cant remember the code) it said the camshaft position sensor was flipping the code. I bought the part, tried to find the stupid thing under the hood, no luck. So I unplugged the battery no luck, pounded on the starter and it smoked. So replaced the starter it fired up. Now a year later my wife is driving the car and it just dies on her. Cant get it to start, starter is still new, only 5,000 on it. So i remembered that this stupid sensor needed replaced. Read about that this sensor could cause the issues that I stated anyway long story short. Where in the heck is this stupid thing at:skull:?(Camshaft position sensor) Everything I've looked at has no look to what I have. Any info deeply appriciated thanks

Ok that's two threads , that'll do.

FYI. ( and correct me if I'm wrong. Not familiar with the 06 2.2 )
There are 2 sensors. One for intake . One for exhaust. You would need to know which one the code was for to replace the correct sensor.
Or just replace both.

And without actually posting the code, about all we can do is point out the location of the parts - but be aware that the codes are often misleading, and unless fully interpreted can lead to replacing the wrong parts.

If you supplied the "flipping code" we could probably save you some time and money.

The 2006 2.2L does not have camshaft position sensors, not saying the codes that mention them don't mean something.

Without the codes we can only take wild guesses; mine based on your no start is it was P0016 that was warning that your timing chain was getting ready to break. Or, P0340/P0341 the spark pack may have failed.

............. and that code he is referring to is a YEAR OLD!!! Who knows what the current code is, assuming there is one waiting to be downloaded.

So, how's about going to the parts palace and getting the code again this time write it down and we can advise you from there.

Hi Cole, :welcome4: to the forums!!

So sometime last year, you got a CEL. Is this when it couldn't be started? Or was it after you were poking around under the hood, looking for the sensor? Was it a no start, or a no crank?

So then you replaced the starter, and it started. And was good for maybe a year or longer. Sounds like the problem was not the CEL, but the starter.

Fast forward to recently, are you having a no start, or a no crank?

And yes, definitely get the codes read, post them up here, without any descriptions, please.
