They did make cobalts in 2005.
Is it the same part # for the blower motor?

Dude! You are awesome! I just got home with the whole heater and blower assembly (they couldent figure out how to get it out so I have this whole huge assembly on my bench) from a 2005 Cobalt as they said they are the same. Im pretty sure the HHR is built on a Cobalt platform ?? I'll let everyone know how it goes!

If you have already replaced the resistor, you already removed the IP parts that need to be removed.

 

Got it figured out thanks! What a stupid way to have to remove a blower fan! Use a knife!!??

 

If you heat the blade with a torch when you make the cut it melts right through! Believe it or not that tip came from a technician at as stealership!!

 

I've seen the instructions posted by Chevy Manager in this forum, but I'm still confused about this. I have repaired the leak that caused the blower motor fail, but haven't attempted to replace the motor yet. I have the entire assembly from a salvage yard, heater core and all since they couldn't figure out how to separate it.
1) I'm not exactly sure where I'm supposed to cut
2) I'm baffled as to how the replacement motor is supposed to stay in place after cutting it out.
3) Should I bother cutting it out or just install the entire assembly? Or is that too much work?

The motor is usually cut out then the dealer uses a specific repair kit with screws and a large ring to secure the new one. Ask chevymgr for the part # of the motor replacement kit.
If you are adventurous, you could try replacing the whole assembly, but it would probably require removing much of the dash, which is a long difficult job.

 

well i have had the same problem as many of you have had with heater blower motor

i checked the two fuses in the cabin, they were good (tested with meter)
changed resister (didn't help)

must be the motor, right?
pulled motor to inspect it, hooked it up to 12 volt supply and it worked just fine

got my test light out and there is no power to the motor
pulled the selector switch out of dash and checked the wires there, (no power there either?)

pulled the relay (#30) and traded it out with one from the engine compartment (no luck there either)

is there another fuse some where else that i am missing?

would appreciate any help
