2008 won't crank

2008 LT, 250,000 miles. Makes a sound like a sewing machine when key is turned. Does not try to crank. The sewing machine sound will continue as long as key is turned. Battery is a couple years old but seems fine, all lights, dash, horn all are powered up. Ignition switch replaced a month ago, but in the last few days before this problem started, it has stiffened a little?? No check engine light. I am not knowledgeable about vehicles at all, want to be clear about that. Just posting to see if anyone may have experienced something similar and could help point me in the right direction.

Welcome to the site, I’m thinking timing chain and or guide.either should trigger a code.

If it is not cranking the chain ain't making noise.
Relays make noise, Solenoids make noise.

Was the ignition switch replaced under the recall?
Check the VOLTAGE of the battery. It should be above 12.75 V.

Maybe something in the HVAC is making the noise.

Maybe the starter is not engaging the flywheel and that is the "sewing machine sound", a freewheeling starter motor?

Thanks for the replies. Yes, the ignition switch was replaced under the recall just 3 weeks ago.

Pull the starter (a 15 minute job) and check the Bendix gear on the end of the starter shaft as well as the ring gear for abnormal wear.
