2009 Console/Waterfall disassembly diagram/blow-up?
Hi Folks, Does anyone have a digital image of the disassembly blow-up for the console/waterfall area in an automatic 2009 HHR? I have a plastic creak "tick" sound in the area where the older HHR's had their window buttons. Not something loose, more like plastic readjusting itself every third bump. I know someone was in this area before I got it as one side of the console was not snapped down. It may just be a binding noise from improper assembly. I want to disassemble, lube with Armor-All, and reassemble correctly. Any help would be greatly appreciated. God Bless, Marc
Hello all,
Thank you Azmodius for the photos. Unfortunately, my console is a lot different due to it being an '09 with the switches on the door. Apparently they changed the cupholder and shifter areas too. I sincerely appreciate the effort though.
Prod, great idea on the foam tape. I am thinking sticky back felt wouldn't hurt either. Thanks for the idea.

I found my "ticking" "rattling" to be coming not specifically from the window switch tray (or junk tray on the 08 SS and all 09) but between the shift console and the main console on the passenger side (near the fuse panel door).
Re the pics in the previous post, this would be represented by the larger object (photos 2, 3, 4, 5), not the junk tray (photo 1). The main console assy is not shown in these pics, but it's the part that the shift console sits on (with the cup holders and e-brake).
I deburred the mating surfaces and treated them with plastic conditioner (i.e. Protectall, Armorall, etc). There are other ways to fix the rattle and each person can find their own way (foam tape, rubber, etc.), but this is the place where the rattle comes from.

Hi Folks, Great news on this end. I got the console apart without breaking anything. Yes, amazing, I know. My auto console is quite a bit different that the manual one shown above. The hardest thing was figuring out how to get that silver bottom section of the "junk" cup (in front of the shifter) out of the hole. Nothing to grip, and no indication that it comes out up and back at an angle. In any event, I cleaned and Armor-All'ed everything before reassembly. There is quite a large open area under the front part of the console, so I filled that will a couple of rolled up sheets of soft foam for noise control. Everything snapped back together well, and no squeaks or chirps now. I tried out an idea for the chrome beauty ring around the shifter. Mine keeps raising up on its own over time, only to be pushed back down again. I wiped a tiny bit of silicone caulk on the clip areas, and well see if that encourages it to stay down. If it works, I'll post it as a helpful tip in the other section. Best wishes and God Bless, Marc
