Thanks for the responses

First repair was gold and everything lined up just fine, but my bad, being out of wrenching for almost 40 years forgot about checking for the blown head gasket before I started everything else! I did say earlier in the thread that I found the culprit was a collapsed balance shaft chain tensioner caused pump failure for the cooling system and a sudden overheat. Should have gone back and checked head gasket thing before I even delved into anything but it is what it is. So now I've been searching for some instruction on doing the head gasket change out being told that it's not that hard, I didn't think it was going to be that hard to get the thermostat housing unbolted from the engine either... Boy was I wrong on that! So if anybody has any idea where I can get some step by step for removing the head that would be much appreciated as I am doing this for a disabled woman that I am caretaker for, she is on SSI and I am on disability so money is tight or I would have just taken to the shop. Biggest concern is can I pull that exhaust manifold off of the head with all of the turbo stuff that's back there in the way? Or do I have to separate all kinds of that stuff to get the manifold off of the head? Same question for intake manifold... Thanks

and here is their website link

now if you have any questions, simply ask. That’s what we are here for.

still searching for answers

that that tutorial only gave me information about stopping oil leak at three components doesn't really delve into pulling ahead at all. So I'm still at the same question can I pull the exhaust manifold and intake manifold away from the head without dropping the entire turbo charging system off of the back of that and any other components etc etc for the exhaust and the intake to get the head off? Everything that I've had to work on in the back like the thermostat housing was so buried behind the turbo and manifold it took me three and a half hours to get it out and it was only three bolts to the block... So I still have no tutorial for actually removing the head on an SS

I replaced the turbo in my driveway on jack stands. Not super hard, but a pain. Get a Haynes or Chilton manual.

I have an intake tutorial here. https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/www....ad.php?t=56181

Thanks for the insight and tutorial... that will help. Just seems like there would be one out there for the head itself.... I guess I'll get one of the manuals before ordering any part's. Thanks again

The Mitchell shop manual basically says "move everything that is in the way".

My Chilton doesn’t give much more details, I’ll send you photos of the SS information.

Thanks for the help, such a great GREAT site here...LOVE IT !!

If the border was open, I’d drive over to your place and help you, but alas, it’s COVID closed! I miss helping out.
