I understood that from the onset Whop.. I was saying that perhaps that was the case. Sh*t happens and we've all gotten marginally lazy. The proof of that is in the numerous duplicate threads regarding long solved issues, because no one wants to search, they just want to ask and get answers...

Mostly the "younger" generation (as someone dedicated a complete thread to) I believe. Most all want everything given or done for them Most have not read the Owners Manual for example.....or acquire one if the don't have it. And if you did, and understood it, you would not have made the mistake with the OLI intent. JMO

I'm done, in before the lock....way off topic and we were warned already.

The OP has not been back to this thread since post #3 and therefore I ask, has any of this assisted in the original problem of low oil stalling out after a short distance?

Is it really an "idiot light"? Maybe it's a "too lazy or too uninformed to open the hood until it's too late light"?

Or, as I've heard proudly proclaimed "all I know is put gas in it". Hang around a service station for a while and ask people "how do you open your hood?".

Also if just having added oil how could I see an oil light AND loss of power and engine cut off AND no temp. jump past normal?

When the computer sees a signal showing oil pressure below a certain set value, it shuts the fuel pump off. This is mainly a safety concern. In a collision, the vehicle could end up on it's side or upside down. A fuel injected engine can run in any position, even upside down but there wouldn't be any oil for the pump to pick up so no oil pressure. Also, in a collision, the fuel line could be broken. Without fuel, the engine would quit but the fuel pump would keep pumping creating a fire hazard. Having the pump only run when there is oil pressure could make it had to start so there is a timed circuit that runs the pump for 10 to 15 seconds when the ignition switch is turned on to make sure the injectors have enough pressure to start.

Your engine could have low oil pressure or the sending unit might be giving a false low pressure signal. I would try the sending unit first or install a mechanical gauge to check pressure. If a new sending unit doesn't fix the problem I think these engines have a timing chain tensioner that uses engine oil pressure. If that fails it could leak enough to drop the oil pressure. If the oil level was low for a long time, you might have damaged the engine. If you have the oil changed at a quick lube, make sure you check the level to make certain they filled it to the correct level.
