2010 LS...800 miles...vibration & rumble

About 3 hours ago I was driving along at 35~40 mph when suddenly the steering wheel began to vibrate and there was a loud rumble coming from the left side wheel well area. It took me about 1/4 mile to get to the side of the road, and when I pulled over the guy behind me pulled over also. He said he could see my left front tire shaking. He didn't have a view of my right side. I looked under and around my left wheel well and couldn't see any obvious problem. It just so happened that I was only about a mile from the dealership! I got back in and started it. I put it in drive and began too roll. No noise or vibration. Drove over to the dealership, via side streets, at about 10~15 mph, without the noise or vibration. The service writer mentioned that they have had problems with the electric steering system with some HRR's, but would have wait for a diagnosis. I picked the car up, brand new, 3 weeks ago, and it now has 806 miles on it.

Power steering motor! The service writer called me just before 5 o'clock and said it was ready! I'm impressed! I'm back on the road again!

I thought this was going to be a long drawn out ordeal! Apparently this is a well known problem, but they had the part, and it was easy to replace. Sure hope this is the first and last of steering problems.

I was hoping they had a updated motor for this by now, but it seems it's the same old part if your 2010 had this issue. Glad it was a quick fix for you!

It is an updated motor. These came out 2 months ago for the Cobalt recall and chances are the OPs was built with the old motor.

Cobalt power steering motor recall

This recall does not apply to HHRs. Do HHRs use a different power steering motor from Mexico?

Sure hope it's the updated motor that came out 2 months, and not one that had been on the shelf for awhile. Time will tell I guess! I was just lucky that I was so close to the dealership. I'm planning on a 400 mile trip this weekend and a lot of it is on open road.

Same motor

Yup, I went back and read that in other threads. Supposedly, due to other aspects of the vehicle, fewer have failed on HHRs than on Cobalts, etc. I'm just not sure I believe it.
