I asked for a decent substitution for part itself, ie a different material for the hose. Oldblue gave me a suggestion for what I was looking for and it works perfectly fine.

Old blue understood your message and gave you the same suggestion I was going to give you. But Don gave you a good idea too. Black electrical tape would work great also, and you really wouldn't notice it.

um electrical tape does not stay very long and would just be a temporary fix
