On my last fuel fill up, upon removing the gas cap, I noticed that little silver disc at the top of the filler neck was missing, but (some sort of) clip was still in place.



Could this have snapped off and fallen into the gas tank?
And if it IS in the tank, will it cause a problem?

 

I wear trifocals....cant see the pic.

You mean finger management ? Mine both have the metal pice in there, cant see how it would come out.....I'd just drive it, see if it blocks any thing. Hope it doesn't slosh around and make a spark.

Since the electric fuel pump in the tank has a sock type filter over the end, shouldn't hurt anything..

 

Another reason to buy a locking gas cap, about $16.00 at most parts stores.

 

I never actually looked but even if there is actually a flap there that broke off I doubt it would do anything between the baffles in the tank and the little sock filter on the fuel pump.

 

Am I the only one who has attempted to siphon gas out of an HHR? There is a baffle or block or something in the filler neck, I couldn't even get a piece of 1/4 inch plastic tubing past it. Had give Carmax 3/4 tank of gas with my trade in.

There was no flap on the old 2008 LT, nor is there one on the new 2011.
