Exclamation Battery Discharge Display Error

My 07 HHR displays intermittent not charging symbol. Battery charge is good, battery is good, checked and replaced alternator but not charging display shows up after 30 seconds of running and audible chimes 4 times. No code by ECM. Light goes out after a short drive but re-appears shortly thereafter with no chimes. At times light stays on indefinately until restarting vehicle. Speed of engine/alternator has no effect. Voltage is at 14.4 volts until light appears when voltage drops to 13.58 volts and battery stays charged. Any help appreciated. Thanks!

Check the belt. I think you already did it. But talking about it just in case.
Weak belt makes a whistle - a striking symptom. If you have heard / hear this whistle, then your belt is weak and weakly drives the generator.

If your belt is in order, then you need service of electrician.

Check your grounds.......had a car do this everytime the clutch was depressed....turned out the clutch linkage was acting ground....check at eng...at frame and at battery grounds...especially eng to frame grounds...with all the isolators (mounts) there is no metal to metal contact...try a small jumper from eng to frame and see if it stops, if it does then look for grnd problem

How are things going with your HHR? Were you able to track down and resolve the culprit causing this?
